Nautical Club Banyoles (Catalonia)

I took this photograph early in the morning at Banyoles Lake. It is located near the town of Banyoles, not far from Girona. It’s the biggest lake in Catalonia and with a total length of 2150 meters, it is the perfect location for rowing, kayaking, swimming, and triathlon training.

In 1992, it became famous as the rowing location for the Barcelona Olympic Games. The World Rowing Championships were also held there in 2004.

It has perfect weather to practice water sports all year; and because of that, it has become a popular training location for many foreign rowers. Many renowned English clubs, such as Leander, Vesta, Cambridge, and the English adaptive rowing team, regularly visit the lake as well as distant clubs and federations like the Russian Canoeing Federation.

However, for those like me that prefer to walk, cycle, or run, the lake is surrounded by minor roads and paths perfect for these activities that provide spectacular views. Look at this video on the official lakes website; it is a great place to visit, isn’t it?
